In this era, when many youths prefer to work with organisations or with the state or federal government, one man has come out to declare that he deliberately made up his mind to be self employed after graduating from the polytechnic.
Speaking as a guest of the journalists covering the Lagos State House of Assembly at their forthnight programme tagged, "Time Out With The Press," Hon. Yinka Ogundimu from Agege Constituency 2 revealed that he has never worked for anybody before he joined government.
"I had my primary and secondary education in Agege. I later went to Lagos State Polytechnic to study Business Administration. I did Post Graduate Degree in Education at the Lagos State University, where I went back to do MBA. I have never worked for anybody in my life. I worked as a management consultant and I am a professional marketer. I am married with a girl and a boy and my wife, Bose happens to be a pastor," he said.
The lawmaker said that Agege of the present is different from the one of old and that he has not manifested any trait of hooliganism since he got to the House, adding that this gives a true reflection of Agege people.
He maintained that he is fulfilled and that going to the state assembly is beyond representing an area, but that it is an indication that he is recognised in the state.
On job creation, the youthful politician stated that we need to go back to the basis and revisit entrepreneurship as it used to be.
"The way out of unemployment is to create jobs for yourself through what you learned in school. The enabling environment by the government is necessary because we have all neglected agriculture and depend too much on petroleum. The government is now being forced to go back to agriculture. Nigeria used to be number one in the supply of cocoa. Jobs can be created from agriculture," he stated.
He revealed that it was so easy for him then to start business after graduation because it was easy to run to uncles and aunties to help someone in those days.
Ogundimu advised that Nigerian banks should help by reducing interest rate to one digit, while admonishing individuals to identify the needs in their environment and acquire skills in that line.
He urged the government to place emphasis on security, which he said was even part of his campaign before he got to the house in 2011.
According to him, "Jobless youths could be co-opted into crimes, so job creation is related to security. State police will also help our security system. A policeman posted to Lagos from Abuja might not find it easy to operate. The Inspector General of Police should tell the Nigerian President that he could not do the job alone and encourage state police since we have state high courts and federal courts operating together."
Ogundimu stated that the current movement of politicians from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) is a progressive change.
He added that people cannot continue to do things the same way and that it is an individual decision.
The lawmaker explained that he has been able to bring the people of Agege 2 area into the spotlight and that he interacts with Ministries, Departments and Agencies on behalf of his people.
"I have attracted about 70 projects to Agege 2 Constituency. I have also done personal programmes. The flood that devastated the state in 2011 happened barely a month after we got to office and I did my best to provide beddings and pillows for my people that were affected by the flood. I also support the physically challenged people in my area. I once distributed writing materials to primary schools in my constituency in April 2013. I hold regular town hall meetings with my people," he stated.
Speaking on the crisis in the Lagos State University (LASU), the politician said that the students needed to be corrected because of the image of the school adding that they students should refrain from going violent at the slightest provocation.
