Lagos Deputy Speaker Debunks
Allegation Over Political Thugs Mayhem at Ajegunle
The Deputy Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Taiwo Kolawole has debunked the report by one of the dailies that political thugs unleashed terror on residents of Ajegunle, a suburb of Lagos, destroying properties worth millions of naira during his political campaign.
Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in the Assembly, Kolawole said that the report was meant to dent his image, saying no thugs or touts distort his campaign.
According to him, “during my declaration at my constituency, I made provisions for security agencies to ensure peaceful atmosphere and I thank God that there was no problem throughout the programme.”
Kolawole, who is representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun constituency 1, also debunked the allegation that he gave out bundles of N1000 notes to thugs, saying the crowd was so much that he could not give out money.
"I could not give money to that crowd because I don't have such money to spend there. The report is just a fallacy and there is no iota of truth there", he said.
Kolawole reiterated that no properties were destroyed and that anybody unleashed terror on anyone and no guns or axe was used to fight at the event.
The lawmaker emphasized that people are fond of fabricating stories to destroy the political career of their colleagues, saying his declaration ceremony was free of crisis.
